Our Story

MindfulYou Centers were created with healing in mind. We treat individuals, teens, children as young as 5, Couples, and Families. You can receive traditional psychotherapy specializing in each individual therapist’s areas of expertise such as Mindfulness Based Therapy, DBT, CBT, Positive Psychology, among many others; or you may prefer an alternative approach to your healing path to include somatic trauma work, Reiki treatments, meditation practices or Native American healing and more. Call our office to schedule and intake appointment with one of our specialized therapists and coaches. You will be glad you decided to embark on your road to healing!

Come learn mindfulness techniques such as the STOP technique and 4, 7, 8 breathing or enroll in one of our Native American healing classes or Shamanic practices. Yessica Avancena, LMFT, MBA, CMT

Yessica Avancena is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who also holds a Master’s in Business Administration and is a Certified Mindfulness Teacher. She is certified by the MAPS Corp for cutting-edge Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy and currently offers integrative sessions. She is the founder and CEO of MindfulYou Psychotherapy and Healing Center. Her intuitive work in the field of psychotherapy has incorporated cutting-edge Mindfulness practices with talk therapy to non-judgmentally walk along the path towards healing for her clients. She provides therapy for families, couples, children, and adults as well as Mindfulness consulting and Executive Coaching. She also provides clinical supervision for her hand-picked Associate Clinicians. She is the creator of the Mindfulness App Mindful Minute which has a Mindfulness Masterclass and guided meditations that can be found in the app markets. www.themindfulminuteapp.com in addition, she is a self-published author of children’s mindfulness storybooks. Stephanie David, MS, AMFT

Stephanie earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Child, Adolescent and Family Studies. She went on to earn her MS in Counseling Psychology at California State University of Bakersfield.

Her clinical work experience includes adolescents, teens, adults, couples, and families. Stephanie utilizes various modalities, including mindfulness practices, CBT, DBT, and trauma informed techniques in her therapeutic approach. She believes that at the base of every conflict, is a human being struggling to navigate complex experiences, and need only the tools to do so effectively.

Stephanie likes to bring her authentic self and energy into the room, recognizing that true growth stems from empathy, as well as a genuine, human connection.

Karl Weaver AMFT

Karl Weaver, AMFT

Karl is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with a passion for helping others. He has maintained a commitment to helping individuals, families, and children build healthy relationships and reduce mental health symptoms. While attending the University of Phoenix in Bakersfield, CA, Karl completed studies in Human Services, earning a Bachelor’s degree.
He then decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Counseling by attending the Marriage and Family Therapy program at the University of Phoenix and obtained his AMFT Registration in 2019. Since graduation, Karl has enjoyed working with adults, families, and children using Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques, as well as using several types of strength-based approaches to improve client autonomy and self-confidence.

Gisela Gonzales, LMFT

Gisela is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has earned a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and a Master’s in Counseling/Marriage, Family, & Child Therapy. She has 10 years of clinical experience working with adults, couples, families, and adolescents.

Gisela uses a holistic approach that combines a variety of Western modalities and Eastern philosophies. She acknowledges no two individuals are the same and that what works for one person may not work for another, therefore, will meet you where you’re at in your journey to collaboratively establish an individualized plan.

Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, major life changes; or simply feel lost, disconnected, or unable to find meaning/purpose. She will work with you to identify what is currently causing you distress, and the areas you seek to resolve/improve; then compassionately guide you toward your goals. Her passion and goal are to assist you to achieve a more balanced, meaningful, joyful, and purpose-driven live.

Karl Weaver AMFT

Toni Alvarez, MA, ACSW

Toni is an Associate Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with families and teens. She also enjoys working with adults to create a safe and judgment-free space for everyone to explore their innermost thoughts and feelings. She believes it is possible to create a joy-filled life to fight back against untruths. She uses Emotional Focused Therapeutic techniques and knows that identifying and acknowledging one’s emotions is key to creating a life worth living. There is hope.

Vanessa Nguyen, LPA

Vanessa Nguyen, Licensed Psychological Associate, earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at Meridian University and is currently finishing up her doctoral program to become a registered psychologist. Vanessa specializes in working with adolescents and families and is also a group facilitator who utilizes a mindfulness-based approach to teaching skills to teen clients. Vanessa is a second-generation Vietnamese American, and her therapeutic approach can be seen as a combination of DBT, CBT, and Eastern philosophies. She is particularly interested in exploring the effects of intergenerational and cultural trauma on first- and second-generation immigrants and children of immigrants. Additionally, Vanessa is passionate about somatic practices and the integration of mind and body techniques. Vanessa believes in a person-centered and holistic approach to helping clients unlearn harmful and negative limiting beliefs and empower them to live their most authentic lives. During her free time, she enjoys working out, hiking, and spending time with her cats.

Stacy Kuwahara, LMFT

Stacy is a Spiritual Counselor, Channeler and Energy Intuitive. She has a MA in Counseling Psychology and has worked as a therapist and in mental health for decades but is now directed to work as a Spiritual Counselor, supporting others in their spiritual journey. Her divine purpose aligns with providing a space to support others while they navigate and connect to the True Self and the wisdom we have available for healing and growth. Stacy’s intention is to support you while you connect with your purpose and light, moving through our human experiences grounded in light and love while learning tools to embrace our limitless potential. The opportunity in this time is to live fully and authentically, grounded in Spirit.
