Our Story

MindfulYou Centers were created with healing in mind. We treat individuals, teens, children as young as 5, Couples, and Families. You can receive traditional psychotherapy specializing in each individual therapist’s areas of expertise such as Mindfulness Based Therapy, DBT, CBT, Positive Psychology, among many others; or you may prefer an alternative approach to your healing path to include somatic trauma work, Reiki treatments, meditation practices or Native American healing and more. Call our office to schedule and intake appointment with one of our specialized therapists and coaches. You will be glad you decided to embark on your road to healing!

Come learn mindfulness techniques such as the STOP technique and 4, 7, 8 breathing or enroll in one of our Native American healing classes or Shamanic practices. Yessica Avancena, LMFT, MBA, CMT

Yessica Avancena is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who also holds a Master’s in Business Administration and is a Certified Mindfulness Teacher. She is certified by the MAPS Corp for cutting-edge Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy and currently offers integrative sessions. She is the founder and CEO of MindfulYou Psychotherapy and Healing Center. Her intuitive work in the field of psychotherapy has incorporated cutting-edge Mindfulness practices with talk therapy to non-judgmentally walk along the path towards healing for her clients. She provides therapy for families, couples, children, and adults as well as Mindfulness consulting and Executive Coaching. She also provides clinical supervision for her hand-picked Associate Clinicians. She is the creator of the Mindfulness App Mindful Minute which has a Mindfulness Masterclass and guided meditations that can be found in the app markets. www.themindfulminuteapp.com in addition, she is a self-published author of children’s mindfulness storybooks. Robyn Thompson, MS, LMFT

Robyn is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She has earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and English and Writing from CSUB and her Bachelor’s Degree in English and Psychology from Nelson Mandela University. She is originally from Port Elizabeth, South Africa and she moved across the world to build a new life and pursue her goals of helping people through the growth and challenges of life. She considers herself an open and genuine person who can join you on your path, and “through curiosity and humor, support you in being a more genuine you”. She is certified as an EMDR clinician and she enjoys working with both adults and children blending together mindfulness practices and person-centered approaches. Robyn’s strengths lie in relating to cultural differences and adjustments, loss, fear and moving through grief.

Stephanie David, MS, AMFT

Stephanie earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Child, Adolescent and Family Studies. She went on to earn her MS in Counseling Psychology at California State University of Bakersfield.

Her clinical work experience includes adolescents, teens, adults, couples, and families. Stephanie utilizes various modalities, including mindfulness practices, CBT, DBT, and trauma informed techniques in her therapeutic approach. She believes that at the base of every conflict, is a human being struggling to navigate complex experiences, and need only the tools to do so effectively.

Stephanie likes to bring her authentic self and energy into the room, recognizing that true growth stems from empathy, as well as a genuine, human connection.

Emily Glossbrenner, MS, AMFT

Emily was raised in Bakersfield, CA, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Masters in Counseling Psychology Marriage and Family Therapy, with a specialization in trauma, at California Lutheran University.

She has a passion for working with first responders as well as children and their families. Since earning her degree in Counseling Psychology, she has done ABA therapy with children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder, school-based individual and group counseling with ages 5-18, individual adult counseling, and substance use counseling utilizing Recovery Model techniques.

Emily enjoys using art and play in therapy when working with children and adults as well as trauma-informed techniques, mindfulness, and narrative therapy practices. She believes that every person has a unique story that is to be honored and shared in their own way and that we all have the power to decide how our next chapter will go.  

Karl Weaver AMFT

Karl Weaver, AMFT

Karl is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with a passion for helping others. He has maintained a commitment to helping individuals, families, and children build healthy relationships and reduce mental health symptoms. While attending the University of Phoenix in Bakersfield, CA, Karl completed studies in Human Services, earning a Bachelor’s degree.
He then decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Counseling by attending the Marriage and Family Therapy program at the University of Phoenix and obtained his AMFT Registration in 2019. Since graduation, Karl has enjoyed working with adults, families, and children using Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques, as well as using several types of strength-based approaches to improve client autonomy and self-confidence.

Lisa Dumas, Certified Yoga Therapist, 500 hr Yoga Teacher

After the gifts of movement and breath helped her overcome disordered panic and anxiety, Lisa now dedicates her life to empowering others with the skills to soothe their anxious minds and bodies. A yoga therapist offers evidence-based practices that can help relieve anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, digestive issues, injury, sleep issues and pain. Based on your unique, individual body and mind, Lisa intends to compassionately offer you the tools that will be most useful, such as accessible movements, breath techniques and other appropriate skills from the paths of yoga, mindfulness and science. Your initial session will include intake, discussion and an introduction to a set of practices to explore. In a follow up session, your progress will be assessed, and your practices may be expanded or enhanced to continue to serve you. This service is not covered by insurance.

Andrea Nehesi , MA, Spiritualist

Andrea Nehesi is a spiritualist with over 15 years of service in women’s healing arts and 20 years of practice as a multi-cultural interdisciplinary healing artist.  It is her mission to help women deepen their relationships with the Divine through sacred feminine healing arts and heart centered practices. Academically she holds a Master’s in Education and teaching credential.

She is a Sacred Woman Practitioner graduate of the Queen Afua Wellness Program and a Kemetic Reiki Practitioner certified by the Ra Sekhi Temple. Devoted to her ministry, Andrea serves as an ordained priestess in the Iseum of Quimera and in the Order of the Magdalene Mystery School.

Andrea offers education for women to learn techniques that integrate healing arts and ancestral reverence in their daily spiritual practice. Her primary ministry is the facilitation of Women’s Red Tents and the Lotus Vibes Drum Ensemble. As an educator, Andrea speaks at spiritual centers, universities, and community panels. In her own spiritual practice, Andrea offers songs of invocation, prayer, ritual dance, and mystical ceremonies to deepen her relationship with the Sacred Spirit.

Debbie Sansom,  Spiritual Intuitive Guide

Debbie Sansom serves as a Spiritual Counselor, Reiki Master, Medium, Channel, and Meditation Guide. It is her joy and purpose to assist by bringing through messages of Love and Light to transform energy blockages through the Alchemy of the Violet Flame, awakening remembrance of the Divine Truth of Their Being. Mediumship connects others to their loved ones in Spirit for deep heart healing. Debbie is an experienced Reiki Master and offers Reiki Attunements at all levels. Incorporated also into sessions are crystals, Angelic color sound vibration, and essential oils.

Dawn Miller, Shamanic Journey Facilitator and Medium

Dawn Miller has been consciously working alongside her Spirit Team since the age of 3yrs old when a guardian Angel appeared to her asking her to be in service helping to facilitate others in their divine awakenings, healings and missions here on earth at this time. Dawn has made this her career for the last 25 years.
She has committed to being in service for all souls needing clarity and healing on earth at this time. Through the years of practice in Psychic Mediumship and energetic healings  she has gained credentials in Advanced Hypnotherapy and is a Certified Massage Therapist.
